UNP electoral organizer  vacancies to be filled on Feb. 9

The existing vacancies for UNP electoral organizers will be filled on February 9, when the Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet, according to party sources. Informed sources told The Island yesterday, that in the light of Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa working independently, the leadership wanted to speedily fill the remaining electoral organizer positions so that all party activity, regardless of who had initiated it, could be coordinated by the respective organisers, in consultation with the Advisory and Working Committees.

LLRC proposals should be put into practice immediately-Tissa

The UNP says it is prepared to hold talks with the government on how to implement recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission. Speaking to the media in Colombo today (Jan. 31), the party’s general secretary Tissa Attanayake said the LLRC proposals should be put into practice immediately. The president said yesterday that the government has decided to engage in a dialogue with the UNP on the national question and other issues, and also to convene an all party conference in the future.

UNP wants government’s stance on 13 Amendment and beyond-Tissa

United National Party (UNP) says the government needs to inform parliament and the country if it was looking at a political solution that goes beyond the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake says the government needed to explain exactly what President Mahinda Rajapaksa has promised to Indian External Affairs Minister S.M.
