We are completely against the 18th constitutional amendment
The United National Party today announced that it had decided to vote against
the proposed constitutional amendments.Party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe made the announcement at a media briefing
held at Sirikotha.The Working Committee and the parliamentary group of the UNP met to discuss
the proposed constitutional amendments today and after three hours of
deliberations, Ranil Wickremasinghe, Karu Jayasuriya and Joseph Michael Perera
addressed the media briefing to announce the party's decision.

UNP calls on govt. to hold referendum on constitutional amendments
United National Party (UNP) today called on the government to hold a referendum on the proposed constitutional amendments.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference today the government was in a hurry to pass the Draft Bill for amending the Constitution in parliament with a two-third majority without considering the many problems faced by the people in the country.
Attanayake also said an important bill like the constitutional amendments is to be brought before parliament as an Urgent Bill without even presenting them to the people. He said the people have a right to known what the amendments were.

UNP appoints committee to prepare party for the local
govt polls
United National Party (UNP) has appointed a
committee for the upcoming Local Government election headed by Deputy Leader of
the party, Karu Jayasuriya.The UNP has appointed the committee for the party to enter the local
government elections as a strong contender.UNP Chairman Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, party secretary Tissa Attanayake and
Joseph Michael Perera are the other members of the committee.The committee is to submit proposals on how the UNP should face the upcoming
local government elections next year.

පටු දේශපාලන වාසි ලබාගැනීම සඳහා ,මතට තිත,
තැබිය යුතු බවට පුරසාරම් දොඩන ආණ්ඩුව පසුගිය 2009 වසරේ දී පමණක් සුරාසල් බලපත්ර 2800 අළුතෙන් ලබාදී ඇති බව එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂයේ මහ ලේකම් තිස්ස අත්තනායක මහතා පැවැසීය.මෙලෙස සුරාසල් වැඩිකරමින් ආදායම ඉහළ දා ගැනීමට ක්රියාකරන පාලනයක් තුළින් රට ධර්මරාජ්යයක් කරා ගෙනයා

GOVT. DOESN'T HAVE A CLEAR VISION !- TISSA ATTANAYAKE
The government doesn't have a clear vision on
constitution reforms, said the General Secretary of the United National Party
(UNP) MP Tissa Attanayake at a press briefing held in Colombo this morning. “At one point they say
they will introduce constitutional reforms to bring about a prime ministerial
system which is accountable to the parliament. At other time they say that it
is the view of the majority to continue with the executive presidential system.
The government doesn't have a clear stance.”
